CHARLESTON, Maine — A 73-year-old man incarcerated at Mountain View Correctional Facility in Charleston has died, according to the Maine Department of Corrections.

The department confirmed his death on Tuesday.

Richard Sweet, of Waterville, reportedly died at approximately 8:25 a.m. on Monday. His death was attended by medical personnel, MDOC said. Further details on his cause of death were not immediately available.

Sweet began serving a 35-year sentence for gross sexual assault in 1998.

Consistent with policy, the Maine attorney general's office and medical examiner were notified of his death.
