HOMEWOOD, Ala. ( WBRC ) - The Homewood Public Safety Committee is moving forward with drafting an ordinance that would ban encampments on public property, following community concerns over homelessness in the city.

During a committee meeting Monday, Sept. 22 residents voiced frustrations about safety and behavior associated with encampments. Several speakers raised concerns over alleged harassment, drug use and indecent exposure.

Former representative and Homewood community member, Paul DeMarco, was one of many at the committee meeting on Monday. He said that it was an opportunity for leaders and community members to discuss the issues they are seeing.
