GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - A request from the Wisconsin DNR for deer hunters: help curb the spread of CWD.

With deer bow hunting season underway, and the gun deer season coming up in November, the DNR is asking hunters to help them monitor chronic wasting disease in the state by testing their harvest.

That includes multiple counties in Northeast Wisconsin, including around the Appleton area.

Their goal is to get more than 19,000 samples this fall. Sampling and testing are free for all hunters.

Compared to neighboring states, the DNR says Wisconsin will have more spread because they detected CWD earlier than others.
