SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - A South Bend school board member has walked back his proposal to reconfigure K-5 schools in the district.

“Plan C” was the brainchild of school board member Mark Costello. That plan would have kept kids in elementary school through sixth grade while middle schools would follow a seventh-eighth grade configuration.

But Costello said during a town hall meeting on Tuesday at Darden Elementary that he was not moving forward with the plan.

Costello opened up the town hall meeting, and he seemed to be emotional. He talked about the overwhelming negative feedback from the proposed Plan C during the first town hall meeting on Monday night and says he is now walking away from it.
