NEW ORLEANS — A stretch of Interstate 10 in St. Tammany Parish has been renamed to honor Sgt. Grant Candies,
The newly designated Sgt. Grant Candies Memorial Highway includes both the eastbound and westbound lanes near the Oak Harbor exits. New signage now marks the renamed section of the interstate.
"We are deeply grateful to the St. Tammany Deputies Association, Senator Patrick McMath, and Senator Bob Owen for helping make this project a reality. Their efforts ensure that Sgt. Candies’ legacy will continue to live on, not only within our agency and his family, but across our entire community,"
Sgt. Candies, 37, died in the early morning hours of March 23, after he was struck by a vehicle while deploying a spike strip on an I-10 on-ramp near Oak Harbor.
