OU Athletics announced that Heisman-hopeful John Mateer suffered a broken bone in his throwing hand in the first quarter of the Sooners game against the Auburn Tigers in Norman on Saturday.

Head coach Brent Venables said the procedure is the best option for Mateer’s recovery and that the expectation is for him to return to action later this season. Sources say the target date is against South Carolina on October 18th.
