BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - An investigation that began as a homicide investigation has been reclassified as a justified death investigation, according to Birmingham Police.
Around 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20, officers with Birmingham’s West Precinct responded to reports of a person down in the 900 Block of 7th Place Southwest.
Officers say when they got to the scene, they found the victim, now identified as 42-year-old Travis Russell from Dadeville, shot and collapsed in the driveway of a home.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived and took Russell to UAB Hospital, where he later died.
Around 12 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 23, Birmingham Police shared that the suspect in Russell’s death is in custody.
