CALHOUN COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) - When community member Crystal Mersh found out that her county commissioner was arrested, she was shocked.

“It’s been a real evolution of information in the past 10 days,” Mersh said. “The community is broken.”

Now, several people in Calhoun County are hoping to remove him from his seat with a petition.

The petition comes after Calhoun County Commissioner and teacher Jacob McCumbers was arrested and charged last week on 50 counts of sexual abuse.

“I decided to sign the petition because I don’t want any of my tax dollars going to Commissioner McCumbers,” Mersh said.

In West Virginia, State Code section 667 provides for three different ways for the removal process to begin: a resolution from the remaining commissioners, an action by the county prosecutor,
