GROOM, Texas (KFDA) - A vandalism near a famous Panhandle landmark has left its nearby community asking “why?”

Groom is home to the largest cross in the western hemisphere and is an attraction for both locals and tourists.

Graffiti was left on multiple bumper stops in the parking lot adjacent to the cross, with each reading “8647.” When put together, the numbers have been interpreted to be a call for the removal of President Trump.

One employee of Cross Ministries has a message for those responsible for the vandalism.

“Regardless of your religious values or your political leanings, let the sacred spaces be. I’ll pray for you, everybody here will pray for you, just let us have our own space,” said Jason Eugea, caretaker of the property.
