BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) - TRiO Programs are part of a federally funded education initiative. The programs offer services to assist first-generation and low-income students across West Virginia.
TRiO programs include Upward Bound, Talent Search, and Student Support Services.
Parents and educators are speaking out against potential cuts to TRiO funding. Senator Jim Justice voiced support for the programs, which he says build upon the "education first" stance he took as governor. "Those concerns are legit as they can be," Senator Justice told 59News. "Remember, the first State of the State address, I said, 'we've got to put a stake in the sand to make education our centerpiece." TRiO Administrators said Grant Award Notifications must be issued by the end of the month for the programs to continue
