ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Maryland will implement a new fine structure for drivers caught speeding next week – and the faster you go, the more you’ll pay.

Instead of the flat $40 fine for getting caught on camera speeding, your fine will depend on how much you’re exceeding the speed limit starting Oct. 1.

The lowest fine is $40 for drivers traveling 12 to 15 miles over the speed limit.

Meanwhile, you’ll get a maximum penalty of $425 for driving 40 miles per hour or more over the speed limit.

Other fees include:

12 - 15 MPH, inclusive $40

16 ‐ 19 MPH, inclusive $70

20 - 29 MPH, inclusive $120

30 - 39 MPH, inclusive $230
