TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - The Tucson Mayor and Council have voted to intervene in the Tucson Electric Power rate case. The case involves a proposed 14% electric rate increase currently under review by the Arizona Corporation Commission.

Tucson ratepayers and businesses are already dealing with a 10% rate hike in 2023. The potential increase could place further strain on families and small businesses. The transition to clean, affordable energy may also be affected.

An analysis by Princeton University suggests annual energy costs could increase by an average of $165 per household by 2023 and $280 by 2035 due to the "One Big Beautiful Bill" passed by Congress this summer.
