Premier Doug Ford has made no secret about his desire to get rid of speed cameras — and now he appears poised to make good on those threats.

Citing sources, the reported on Tuesday afternoon that Ford’s Progressive Conservatives will table legislation in the coming weeks to outlaw the controversial automated speed enforcement devices.

“We’re looking at all options on how to slow down traffic without the use of speed cameras,” a senior government official told the outlet.

Ford has referred to the speed cameras as a “tax grab.”

According to sources cited in the report, the Ontario government won’t pay to remove the hundreds of speed cameras currently installed throughout the province. Rather, they will simply be deactivated.
