A road hit by sudden flooding due to a burst mains pipe could be closed for a number of weeks, it has been confirmed.

The residential road in Trafford turned into a deluge on Monday (September 22) after the bust pipe sent a tide of water onto surrounding roads.

United Utilities confirmed that the leak had occurred on Flixton Road in Urmston at around 1.30pm, with local residents forced to use plungers and brooks to clear grates and keep water away from their homes.

Videos circulating on social media showed a torrent of water pouring out of the ground on Flixton Road, which then flowed up surrounding residential roads.
