BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- There have been two shootings near the Kern County Fairgrounds since the beginning of the fair.

One shooting on Vine Street took a man's life last week.

Another Sept. 22 shooting, on P street, left one victim hospitalized. Tuesday was school day at the fair and parents leaving with their children say they feel safe even when they attend the fair in the evening.

"Yeah I don't feel any problems, you know, as long as you're with a good group and you're able to watch everyone around you, I feel like the fair is always a good time," said Justin Kelly.

"100% I think there's plenty of security driving around and watching everybody," said Nina James.
