A road was taped off and an air ambulance called following reports of a serious crash in Wigan on Tuesday evening (September 23).

Golborne Road in Ashton-in-Makerfield was cordoned off in both directions by police with a number of emergency services vehicles, including police and paramedics, in attendance.

An air ambulance also landed nearby following the incident, which witnesses claimed involved a bike and another vehicle.

The main road was taped off from Lord Street, with traffic officers also at the scene diverting motorists away from the incident.

One witness claimed the motorcyclist was being treated by paramedics at the roadside before being rushed to hospital
