ALCOA, Tenn. — A traffic stop on Alcoa Highway led to the finding of a "suspicious device" on Tuesday evening, according to a post from the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
THP said just before 5 p.m., a trooper conducted a traffic stop on Alcoa Highway in Blount County near the I-140 interchange after they saw a traffic violation. The trooper noticed what appeared to be an explosive device inside the vehicle, with that trooper immediately securing the scene and requesting assistance.
"The Knox County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the Alcoa Police Department all responded," THP said.
After examination, THP said bomb technicians determined the item appeared to be a hoax device. It was then taken for testing.
