A 48-year-old Los Angeles man died Tuesday when his vehicle overturned on eastbound Interstate 10 in Thousand Palms.

The crash was reported shortly before 8 a.m. Tuesday west of Cook Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A 2003 red Ford Explorer was traveling eastbound on I-10 at an unconfirmed speed, when the vehicle made an unsafe turning movement to the right, drove off the roadway, overturned onto the dirt shoulder and landed on its roof, according to CHP Officer David Torres.

No other occupants were inside the vehicle.

The driver, identified as Christopher Murphy, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Drugs and/or alcohol are not suspected to be a factor,” Torres said.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
