In the runoff for Hoover's City Council, Ashley Lovell defeated Liz Lane for Place 3 handily, while Gene Smith is the winner of Place 2.

Lovell defeated Lane 6,351 to 2,341.

Smith won Place 2 with 4,644 votes, while Cox received 4,002.

The two will join Robin Schultz, who won Place 1 without a runoff, while four incumbents held their seats. Two, Steve McClinton and Casey Middlebrooks, did not have opposition, while Kristi Driver and Derrick Murphy easily defeated their opponents in the August 26 election.

Lovell is a newcomer to politics, getting involved by organizing residents of the Tattersall area against zoning changes there. She entered the race with the intention of challenging incumbent John Lyda, who did not seek reelection.
