SIMSBURY, Conn. (WTNH) -- A house in Simsbury was broken into twice by a bear that is now on the loose -- and biologists from the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Services are set out to capture it.
A giant metal culvert can be seen in the neighborhood where the house is located. It's a bear trap set up by DEEP after Michelle Lemis saw a bear inside her house while her daughter was sleeping.
"I saw the bear at the front door, huge bear," she said. "So now, I'm thinking, 'Is there another bear inside? Is that a mama bear?'"
Lemis said she called 911 as she watched the bear crash through her screen door and enter a window, where it had already pulled out an air conditioning unit. She called her daughter to warn her, and she luckily picked up the phone.
