WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - During a Wichita City Council workshop on Tuesday, Mayor Lily Wu raised concerns about the enforcement of the city’s homeless encampment ordinance.
That ordinance took effect earlier this year as a way to speed up the process of removing homeless encampments. During Tuesday’s meeting involving city leaders, it was expressed that some changes should happen.
The stricter enforcement of Wichita’s homeless encampment ordinance eliminates the need for law enforcement to give a 48-hour notice before clearing out an encampment.
“It is not to punish people with citations. The point of it is to connect people to the resources that the city is now investing millions of dollars into,” Mayor Wu said.
