KA’U-HAMAKUA (HawaiiNewsNow) - The U.S. Drought Monitor added the southern tip of Hawaii Island to its list of areas with extreme drought on Sept. 18.
Farmers in the Ka’u area reported degrading field conditions were making it difficult to graze cattle.
A portion of the Hamakua area is also under an extreme drought.
The entire state is experiencing abnormally dry conditions with the biggest droughts in Maui and Hawaii counties.
