WINTERHAVEN — A suspected drug-impaired driver has been arrested after a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 8 Tuesday morning claimed the lives of two passengers, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The fatal collision occurred at approximately 4:17 a.m. west of Dunaway Road. A preliminary CHP investigation indicates that a 59-year-old woman was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche eastbound in the number one lane when, for reasons still under investigation, she lost control of the vehicle.

The Chevrolet overturned in the lane and continued to roll an unknown number of times before finally coming to rest on its wheels in the center median. The force of the violent rollover ejected both passengers from the vehicle.
