An immersive exhibit showcasing hundreds of works by a beloved Caswell County, North Carolina, artist is coming to the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History in October.
The display featuring art pieces by Maud Gatewood, the acclaimed Caswell County native and former Averett University professor, will be the most comprehensive collection of hers presented by the museum, said Sonja Ingram, the museum’s director.
Fans of local art will be able to view more than 200 drawings and paintings by Gatewood, as well as a few photographs and a sculpture of hers. Gatewood, who taught art at Averett from 1975 until her retirement in 1997, died in 2004 at 70.
The bulk of the exhibit, about 170 works, will come from the museum’s own collection. Also, more than 70 additional pieces will be on loan fr
