NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is warning the public of a recent spike in overdoses in other states across the country involving a veterinary anesthetic.

The TBI wants the public to be aware of Medetomidine. Which they say is “a highly dangerous substance that is now being found in the illicit drug supply.”

“Medetomidine is a veterinary anesthetic with powerful sedative properties—far more potent than Xylazine—and it can cause prolonged sedation. It has appeared in our crime labs and, alarmingly, it is often mixed with fentanyl.”

Here are instructions on how to watch WSMV4 live on various platforms.
