NEW MADRID, Mo. (WSIL) -- The recent rainfall has helped drought conditions and river levels across the region.

The rainfall has helped dry vegetation and reduce fires, and has brought river levels out of the low threshold range in many areas in both the Ohio River and Mississippi River. However, the river levels remain fairly low and some areas are still in the low threshold range.

In Mississippi County, the Dorena-Hickman Ferry halted operations due to the low river levels a couple weeks ago and is still remains closed as of September 24.

In Tiptonville on September 24, at 9 a.m., the Mississippi River was at 1.77 feet and rising. This level is down nearly a foot from a week ago. The river is forecasted to to 2.8 feet on September 30, and slowly drop after for the next week, accordin
