An online campaign petitioning the City of Welland to return a beloved and popular maintenance employee with special needs to his former assignments at Welland Arena and Welland Stadium is unlikely to achieve its goal if the person being supported in the initiative has anything to say about it.

Indeed, Tony Franco said that his older brother Rocco appreciates no longer having to work weekends or having to bicycle home in the middle of the night after night games following a transfer to the downtown core.

“He likes it, he likes the new hours — 7 to 3, Monday to Friday, no weekends, no long nights,” Tony Franco told The Tribune on behalf of his brother.

“This thing on Facebook just blew right up.”
