A 24-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly engaging in a lewd act the day before at a public library in Monroe, police said.

Officials said they are not releasing the man's identity until he has been formally charged in court.

Monroe officers were called at about 8:50 a.m. on Tuesday to the Dorsch Memorial Library on First Street near Monroe Street for an incident that occurred the previous day, authorities said.

Detectives assigned to the case later met with some of the library's staff, according to police.

Investigators said they found evidence, including surveillance video, that a man at the library on Monday approached one of the facility's female employees, distracted her, and committed what police said was "a lewd act" while she faced away from him.
