A driver struck two pedestrians in a hit-and-run crash in Midtown Manhattan this afternoon, police said.

An NYPD spokesperson said the incident happened shortly before 3 p.m. near the intersection of 40th Street and 5th Avenue. The condition of the pedestrians wasn’t immediately available.

Police said the driver fled the scene and the investigation is ongoing. Officials are asking the public to avoid the area.
