SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - The Springfield Art Museum marked a milestone in phase one of the museum’s renovation and expansion project.

Museum leaders and the Whiting-Turner Contracting Company celebrated the placement of the final steel beam. The museum closed last September to start renovations to the main building. The work includes an expanded lobby, visitor lounges, a family learning center, and a new gallery.

The museum’s director says it’s exciting to see the project come to life.

“This is a point when the project really is becoming real in a big way,” said director Nick Nelson. “And so it’s just been very gratifying to see us get to this point.
