CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A popular northeastern supermarket chain has officially begun the process of opening up a location in the Queen City.

Crews are breaking ground on the first Wegmans store in Charlotte, coming soon to the Ballantyne neighborhood. Executives will build a 110,000 square foot store on North Community House Road.

The family-owned chain started almost 110 years ago near Rochester, New York.

Charlotte city leaders are excited for the new business to arrive. The store is slated to open in the Fall of 2026. The owners are expected to hire around 450 employees.
