The Kenai Flotilla of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is hosting a two-day Boat America Boating Safety Course in Kenai this week, designed to teach essential skills for safely operating a boat in Alaskan waters.
The course will be held at the Cook Inlet Aquaculture Association on K-Beach Rd on Thursday, September 25, from 6:30 to 9 pm., and Saturday, September 27, from 10 am to 4:00 pm.
“We cover general boating safety, laws, how to operate a boat, towing, navigation, emergency preparedness, and Alaska-specific regulations,” said instructor Tara Janik. “There’s even a chapter on what to do if something goes horribly wrong—that’s the one I teach.”
The course includes two sessions (Thursday and Saturday) and a textbook.
Janik noted that walk-ins are welcome, and registration is still open
