BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Members of Vermont’s congressional delegation say a federal government shutdown seems more likely by the day.
Republicans control the House, Senate, and presidency, but they need 60 votes in the Senate to advance a short-term spending plan.
Democrats say any budget bill needs an extension of healthcare subsidies and a rollback of some provisions of the big beautiful bill.
It comes as President Trump cancelled a meeting with top House and Senate democrats this week.
Senator Peter Welch says this government shutdown threat may be harder to work out of because there are no ongoing talks between sides. “I’ve been on the brink before, both at the statehouse and here, but parties were talking, they were seemingly far apart, but there would be legitimate points of vie
