SHELBURNE, Vt. (WCAX) - A propane tank was struck by a dump truck in Shelburne.

The Shelburne Fire Department says they were called out to a home on Spear Street just before 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday after a construction vehicle hit an in-ground propane tank.

The tank started rapidly releasing vaporized propane, causing a strong smell in the area.

People in two homes were evacuated while first responders used water streams to contain the leak.

It took several hours to disperse the vapors. Luckily, no one was hurt.

Propane and natural gas are extremely flammable. The fire department says if you smell gas, immediately evacuate, and don’t use any electronics or motor vehicles in the area.
