BANGOR, Maine — A new housing development for older adults is underway in Bangor.

Community leaders broke ground Wednesday on Sunridge Senior Housing, a $20 million project led by the Bangor Housing Authority. The 50-unit development off Sunset Avenue will serve residents 55 and older and include accessibility features in each unit.

Mike Myatt, the authority's executive director, said the goal is to ease burdens many seniors face.

"The housing is just something they don't have to worry about anymore," Myatt said. "That was their No. 1 stressor; they don't have to worry about that. They can worry about loving their grandkids and taking care of themselves—and the housing piece, we got that. We'll take care of it, and we'll do the rest."
