KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) - More than 60,000 people in Knox County don’t have access to fresh and healthy foods, according to Feeding America. Now, United Way of Greater Knoxville and community members are working to address that issue.
United Way has a People’s Food Plan to help people eat healthier. The plan comes from taking a closer look at the needs in the county when it comes to being able to reach fresh foods.
“It could be the babysitter who’s feeding your children,” said Kimberly Pettigrew, director of Healthy Communities, United Way Greater Knoxville. “It could be the college student that attends your church, the person helping check you out at the grocery store.”
