BELOIT, Wis. — Student workers at Beloit College have secured a new contract with the school after months of negotiations over wages, training, and workplace safety. The agreement comes six months after a 13 Investigates report that highlighted student concerns over pay.
Hundreds of student workers were earning an average of $8.58 an hour, a rate they argued did not reflect the work they performed and fell far short of a livable wage. For comparison, the living wage in Beloit, Wisconsin, is just over $20 an hour.
After more than six months of organizing, Beloit College and Beloit Student Workers United have finalized a two-year collective bargaining agreement. Under the new contract, all student employees will earn at least $9.50 an hour until June 30, 2026. Beginning July 1, that rate w
