WAUNAKEE (WKOW) -- Volleyball is the fastest-growing boys high school team sport in the nation.

51% more boys are playing volleyball now than six years ago, according to the National Federation of High School Coaches .

More and more programs are popping up locally.

"It's really growing," Waunakee assistant coach Sean Gehrke said. "All of the Madison schools have it now. Recently, McFarland has a club team. DeForest has a team. Fort Atkinson has a team. Obviously, we started a team. [...] Edgewood has a team. So, it's really growing and really growing quickly in the last couple of years, and I think there's more opportunity for growth to the other surrounding communities."

At Waunakee, the team is in just its second year of existence, with 15 players.
