An exhilarating, intoxicating blend of '70s conspiracy paranoia and today's combustible politics, "One Battle for Another" is writer-director Paul Thomas Anderson's biggest swing since "There Will Be Blood," and it's undoubtedly one of the year's most gripping films.
It's also one of the best, stitching together a crackling script, dynamite filmmaking and a lights-out ensemble of actors, each piece of the puzzle complementing and elevating the others. It's set in an underground world of secret societies, encoded communications and fire-tested loyalties, and it's the kind of movie that, while watching it, you can't wait to watch again. Movies in 2025 don't get much more exciting or much more involving than this.
