FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Republican Jason Dickerson is the projected winner of the runoff race in the Georgia Senate District 21 special election.

Unofficial results show he beat his contender, Democrat Debra Shigley, Tuesday night. The Georgia Senate Democratic Caucus issued a statement saying Shigley had conceded to Dickerson. The caucus thanked Shigley for her candidacy.

"This was a busy field with many well-funded candidates, and while today did not turn out how we hoped, the effort from the Shigley campaign cannot be overlooked," Senate Minority Leader Harold Jones said in a news release.

As for Dickerson, the Georgia Republican Party celebrated securing the seat.
