The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have officially confirmed that India batter Shreyas Iyer has taken a six-month break from red-ball cricket due to fitness concerns. Iyer was part of the ongoing two-match Unofficial Test series between India A and Australia A in Lucknow and had led the hosts in the opening match before withdrawing from the second fixture.

In a statement the BCCI said that Iyer has experienced recurring back spasms and fitness while playing red-ball cricket due to which he has stepped aside from the format for the time being.
