PHOENIX — A suspect who was injured after a shooting incident with Phoenix police has been identified.

35-year-old Wilson Melgar-Melgar was allegedly holding a toddler hostage with a machete before being shot by officers, officials said.

On Wednesday, around 10 p.m., authorities reported an officer was involved in a shooting with Melgar near 31st Avenue and Bethany Home Road.

Phoenix Police said officers responded to a domestic violence call. When they got to the apartment, authorities said they found Melgar armed with a machete and holding a child at his side.
