(Eagle Butte, SD) — An Eagle Butte man has been sentenced to seven years in federal prison for assaulting his partner and their infant child with a cell phone. Richard Hale, Jr. was sentenced after pleading guilty in June to charges of child abuse and assault with a dangerous weapon. The assault happened in October, when Hale repeatedly struck his partner in the head with a cell phone while she was holding their baby. During the attack, he also grabbed the child by the arm. As a result, Hale’s partner sustained a head laceration, and the infant suffered multiple injuries, including a fractured skull and broken arm.
