CHICAGO — Police are searching for answers on Thursday morning after a man was critically injured in a drive-by shooting on the city's Far South Side.

According to Chicago police, the incident unfolded around 5 a.m. in the 10000 block of South Aberdeen Street in Washington Heights.

Officers said the victim, a man believed to be in his 20s or 30s, was inside a car in the area when a white Chrysler 300 approached and someone inside opened fire.

The victim suffered a gunshot wound to his head and was later transported to the hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.

Following the shooting, officers say they believe the Chrysler fled the scene in an unknown direction.

Authorities are now searching for the individual responsible and it remains unclear what led up to the gunfire.
