California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) revealed one of his greatest fears about President Donald Trump .

During an appearance on CBS’ “The Late Show” Tuesday night, Newsom criticized the Democratic Party for “struggling” to communicate to voters as it looks to win back a House majority during the 2026 midterms. Newsom, who is visiting New York City for Climate Week, said he is not only fundraising for the initiative — but is “raising awareness on how Donald Trump is trying to rig the midterm elections.”

“And how I fear we will not have an election in 2028. I really mean that in the core of my soul, unless we wake up to the code red, what’s happening in this country, and we wake up soberly to how serious this moment is,” Newsom said.
