Vice President JD Vance is facing scrutiny on social media after quickly placing blame after authorities confirmed a shooting at a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement field office in Dallas, Texas, on Wednesday.
Three people have been shot and the shooter is dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons announced on CNN on Wednesday, though he said he could not confirm the identities of the victims. Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin later told Fox News that ICE law enforcement were not among those injured, who were instead “potentially detainees.”
Joe Rothrock, the special agent in charge of the Dallas FBI, also said during a news conference that no ICE agents were injured, and called the attack an act of “targeted violence.”
