COLUMBUS, Ohio — In May, Annette Chambers-Smith, the director of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (ODRC), asked lawmakers for an increased budget to help put Tasers in every prison.
At the time, the state was only a few days into testing out Tasers at Trumbull Correctional Institution (TCI).
10 Investigates tried to ask Chambers-Smith after she made the ask to get clarity on that expansion, but she declined to answer.
Now, six months later, a recently released report from ODCR provides more details on the program.
The report says that in a 90-day period, more than 600 prison staff members trained with the tasers. It goes on to add that "use of force" incidents at the prison went down by half in that time period.
