MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WILX) - Beginning October 1, Meridian Township will launch its 15th annual Deer Management Program, coinciding with the start of Michigan’s 2025 archery season.
The program is designed to address deer overpopulation, reduce deer-related traffic accidents, and improve public safety.
Initiated in 2011, the program has led to a 49 percent decrease in deer-vehicle collisions. In addition to improving roadway safety, the program contributes venison to 14 food banks.
This year’s program will run from October 1 through January 1, 2026, and will take place on 42 Township-owned properties and 28 approved private properties.
The deer harvest is not open to the general public and will be carried out by 63 experienced volunteer hunters who are familiar with the local land
