A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a woman in Thornaby. Cleveland Police were called to the scene in the early hours of Thursday morning .

Officers were called by the North East Ambulance Service over concerns for a woman at a property on Baysdale Road shortly before 2.15am. A resident at the scene said that three police cars and a police van attended the scene, along with two ambulances, and a flat was taped off.

Cleveland Police confirmed that a 47-year-old woman was treated by paramedics however sadly passed away a short time later. Her next of kin has been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Officers have arrested a 50-year-old man on suspicion of murder, and he is currently in police custody being questioned. Pictures taken
