A United Express plane overshot the runway while attempting to land at Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport in Virginia on Wednesday, Sept. 24, causing it to slip away from the landing zone, authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred around 9:18 p.m., the Virginia State Police said in a statement to USA TODAY. Upon touching down, the plane did not have sufficient runway to stop and ran off the end of the runway.
"Tail number N21129 was landing and did not provide enough braking distance to bring the plane to a stop and continued off the end of the paved runway onto the emergency stopping equipment," the statement continued.
CommuteAir was operating the flight as part of a United Express route from Washington Dulles International Airport to Roanoke, Virginia.
